A holiday gift to you!

Updated: Nov 24, 2021

I've been desperately wanting to find time to do more creating, because it inspires me and is a stress reliever. And I don't know about all of you, but it's been a year like no other. I'm truly grateful for being back to in-person learning, presentations, consulting, and back to all the kid things with my family, but it's left no time for the creative things, the things that leave me inspired, excited, and recharged.

Well, everything suddenly stopped last week when I got the worrisome notification that I was Covid positive. A dreaded breakthrough case. It's sad, but I'm grateful for testing that prevented me from spreading it and the vaccine/booster that has kept me fairly healthy with just a few annoying symptoms. My family has all tested negative, so there's that blessing, too, and fingers crossed all of this isolation keeps them that way! So, what does one do with their time while isolated from family for 10 days? I mean, one can only watch so much Netflix and read so many books in a day, so I've sprinkled in some creative time while the Tylenol and Ibuprofen work their magic and leave Netflix for when I'm not feeling so hot.

And that, my faithful followers, is how The Mitten slide deck came to be. I truly hope that this will bring you some relief as we head into the busy holiday season, the end of grading periods and conferences, and let's you take a breather, do some self-care, or spend more time with your family.

As with my other slide decks, it is locked, and, no, I won't unlock it and allow you to make a copy...even if you request it, because all the copyright "stuff" gets tricky. You can, however, print out the PDF and use The Mitten Jamboard to make this an interactive fun experience. There are plenty of links in the slide deck that you can click on to learn more about literacy instruction as you move your way through it, even though I don't allow you to make a copy of the slide deck.

A note on the bingo boards. If you have a LessonPix account you can download and print the Bingo boards, have access to the tray of pictures, and create even more fun games and activities or pull it into PowerPoint and use the interactive tools. If you search for "The Mitten" in the sharing center you'll find artic pages, question pages, matching activities, and so many other things that others have created and shared! If you do not have a LessonPix account, please consider getting one. It's a very reasonable resource and they're a good company. I don't endorse much, and I get nothing for saying that, I just like them and since this is my blog, I can say what I want! The rest of this is free, so use it and enjoy it.

As always, I love to hear your feedback on what your students or child thinks of it or what their favorite activities are, so send me a message, connect with me on social media @BuildingAAC on Facebook, or feel free to email me!

Happy Holidays and stay healthy!

Jennifer
